Practice Emphasis
Darin Jensen's practice concentrates on general business and estate planning with a strong emphasis on tax planning for partnerships, corporations, trusts, estates, and individuals. He drafts legal documents such as partnership/shareholder agreements, wills, trust documents, and lease agreements. Darin assists with all phases of real estate development and operations. He also represents clients before IRS Appeals and in IRS Audits.
Proven Results:
Darin coordinated two successive estate planning transactions for one client that moved $8M free from federal and state tax to the next generation through proper use of discounts and grantor trusts.
Darin reviewed a client's exercise options in a partnership merger and provided an analysis that converted $5.3M from potential ordinary income to long-term capital gain income and saved the client over $1M in tax.
In analyzing a lease agreement between landlord and tenant with regard to a $2.5M remodel, Darin properly accelerated the cost recovery of those improvements, which helped the client to recognize a tax savings of $200K in the first year.
Darin reviewed the details of a client's receipt of $2.8M of condemnation and easement proceeds from the State and successfully shielded $1.7M from tax all together, leaving just $1.1M subject to deferred exchange under Section 1033.
Darin has successfully navigated many clients through the procedural maze of IRS Audits/Appeals and has secured many "no change" results.
